2020 AMAs Performances & Winners | Rap Radar

The American Music Awards celebrated the biggest names in music with their annual awards on Sunday (Nov. 22).

Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the ceremony took place at the The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with COVID-19 protocols in place as well as a few in-person honorees and live performances.

Megan Thee Stallion, who was up for five awards, opened up her epic set with encouraging words of body ownership before segueing into an electrifying performance of her Good News hit, “Body”.

The Weekend, who lead the year with eight nods, brought fireworks with an explosive performance of “In Your Eyes” and “Save Your Tears” alongside Kenny G.

Lil Baby spread mental health awareness with a moving performance of “Protect Your Mental Health” alongside a live band and a therapist on stage. Elsewhere, Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker hit the locker room with their rock performance.

Nelly took it back to his classic debut, Country Grammar with a medley including its title track, “E.I.”, and “Ride Wit Me”. Bel Biv Devoe brought the ’90s back with a medley of their own, and Jennifer Lopez stunned her set with her captivating “Maluma”, “Pa’ Ti”, and “Lonely”.

Some of the evening’s big wins included the late Juice WRLD being honored as this year’s Favorite Male Rap Artist and Nicki Minaj crowned as the Favorite Female Rap Artist. Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial was dubbed Favorite Rap Album and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP took Favorite Rap Song.

Doja Cat was present to accept both Favorite New Artist and Favorite Female R&B Artist, while The Weeknd took over the R&B/Soul categories including Favorite Artist, Favorite Album (After Hours) and Favorite R&B Song (“Heartless”).
