Tegan and Sara Celebrate 25 Years Together With 10th Studio Album

Due out in October, Crybaby is set to be the tenth studio album from the iconic Canadian duo Tegan and Sara. Having originally formed in the late 1990s, the sisters have navigated the music industry for a quarter of a century, maintaining a creative partnership that has only grown more resilient with time.

In a recent discussion regarding their longevity, the duo reflected on the nomadic nature of their sound. “We’re not like every other band,” they noted. “Aesthetically and sonically, we’ve been allowed to move around because we moved from the beginning, so we’ve always been a bit of a nomadic band in that sense.” This willingness to explore diverse genres and experiment within the industry has provided them with a rare level of artistic freedom.

The duo’s latest single, “Yellow,” offers a window into their collaborative songwriting process. Tegan shared her initial reaction to the track, noting, “When Sara sent me that song, I was like: ‘It’s so beautiful, it’s so slow and sad. And then I thought: ‘My God, this is so hooky – like, speed it the [removed] up, this is a fucking pop song.’”

While the sisters admit to having their share of creative disagreements, they believe these moments of friction are essential to their success. “I think that resistance and stubbornness in the both of us allows us to be quite solid,” Tegan explained. “If someone walked up to me now and said they didn’t like the sound of our new record, I’d tell them they’re wrong. I’d be like: ‘This is absolutely the direction we were meant to go in.’ I think with Sara and me, that butting of heads is what allows us to be so sure [of our music] once it comes out.”

With Crybaby arriving this October, fans can look forward to another chapter in the enduring legacy of Tegan and Sara, whose latest single “Yellow” is available for streaming now.
