All these decades into their existence, Animal Collective are still spinning off new side projects. A couple of months ago, longtime bandmates Avey Tare and Geologist (or, if you prefer, Dave Portner and Brian Weitz) announced that they’d started an instrumental duo called Croz Boyce and announced their self-titled debut, which comes out later this week. We’ve already posted their song “Hanging Out With A Blueberry Pop,” and now they’ve followed it with another one.
Croz Boyce’s latest is “Steven Sunshine’s Rejected,” another blissed-out and homespun instrumental. If you’ve been listening to Animal Collective for a long time, this will probably sound comforting, maybe even to the point of nostalgia. The Joseph Ricketts-directed video is full of sharp and pretty marine-life footage. Check it out below.
Croz Boyce is out 5/8 on Domino. Croz Boyce will play Cleveland’s Talk Low Music Festival in September, with more live dates to come.
