Is Tom DeLonge Rejoining Blink-182? Don’t Celebrate Just Yet

Rumors of Tom DeLonge rejoining blink-182 after his departure from the band may be premature. A few weeks ago, Matt Skiba announced he was uncertain about his current status as a member of the group, which immediately ignited speculation among fans that a major change might be in the works.

Skiba does not currently list the band on his social media profiles. When a fan recently inquired if he was still a member of the legendary pop-punk outfit—with whom he recorded two albums—Skiba responded, “Your guess is as good as mine. Regardless, I am very proud of and thankful for my time with blink-182. We shall see…”

The rumor mill accelerated when the band shared a set of Funko Pops featuring DeLonge to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Shortly after, the former guitarist posted a throwback image of the band on his Instagram, tagging the group in the process. Further fueling the fire, DeLonge updated his Instagram bio to include the band’s name. Given that he does not list his other project, Box Car Racer—which featured Travis Barker—on his profile, it was reasonable for fans to assume a reunion was imminent.

However, those hopes should be tempered for the time being. Mark Hoppus has addressed the buzz directly, making it clear that there is no truth to the rumors. The singer and bassist took to Discord to clarify the situation, stating there is “no news to share.”

Hoppus reiterated, “There is no announcement. Today is thirty years of blink-182!”

In a follow-up post shortly after, Hoppus clarified the band’s communication strategy: “If and when blink has any announcement about anything, you will hear it from the official blink-182 outlets. Not teased on a radio station like ‘tune in for a major announcement…Tom tagged Mark in a photo from two decades ago.'”
