The dreamy London rockers Whitelands are calling it quits. In an Instagram statement about their breakup, the band did not cite a specific reason for the decision. Instead, they chose to focus on gratitude, offering a gracious thank you to the supporters who followed them throughout their career.
Etienne Quartey-Papafio and Jagun Meseorisa founded Whitelands in 2017, when both were still teenagers. The duo quickly made their mark, releasing their debut album Old News in 2018. Over the years, the project evolved into a full-fledged band with the addition of members Vanessa Govinden and Michael Adelaja. Their trajectory saw significant momentum in 2024, a year that included signing with Sonic Cathedral, touring alongside Slowdive, and releasing the acclaimed album Night-bound Eyes Are Blind To The Day.
The band continued to push forward earlier this year with the release of their album Sunlight Echoes, which featured the single “Glance,” accompanied by a music video starring David Jonsson and Honor Swinton Byrne. Despite their clear artistic growth and potential, the members have decided to move on to new chapters.
Below, you can revisit some of the band’s work, including the official videos for “Tell Me About It” and “Glance.”
