The Weeknd Debuts New Song In Rio

For a while now, Abel Tesfaye has been saying that he wants to stop releasing music as The Weeknd. Last year, however, he suggested that he might not be done with the moniker after all. At a show in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night, he offered a compelling glimpse into how a new song under that name might sound.

The Weeknd played Rio de Janeiro’s Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos alongside the Brazilian star Anitta on Sunday night. The pair have a history of collaboration, most notably on “São Paulo,” a track featured on The Weeknd’s 2025 album Hurry Up Tomorrow. Before the official release of that track, the duo famously teased it during a 2024 performance in São Paulo. In a similar fashion, the pair used their Rio stage time to debut a new song, which appears to be titled “Rio.”

Following their performance of “São Paulo,” the new collaboration echoed through the stadium speakers. The visual accompaniment featured a CGI video credited to the prolific Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike. The Weeknd subsequently shared footage from the event on his Instagram, where it currently stands as the only post on his profile. The track marks an exciting potential evolution in his sound, and fans are already buzzing about the new material.
