Back in 2020, Cara Delevingne offered some vocals for the title track of Fiona Apple’s blockbuster album Fetch The Bolt Cutters, including a meow. Now, the reclusive singer-songwriter has repaid the favor by co-writing a song on Delevingne’s debut album, which is slated for release this summer via Warner.
Yesterday (May 29), the actress and model released “I Forgot” and “Out Of My Head,” her debut singles, excluding a track for the Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planet soundtrack in 2017. These tracks were co-produced by Delevingne alongside BJ Burton, known for his work with Bon Iver and Charli XCX.
According to Rolling Stone, Apple co-wrote a song titled “Need It,” which the magazine describes as “club-ready.” Reflecting on the collaboration, Delevingne shared:
We were writing things down on Post-it notes and sending them to each other, which is really funny, because we could have just been texting these lyrics. I wanted to do a song that honored her — honored her impact for me as a person and as an artist. I think without the experience of going in the studio with her, I’d never have felt like I could be myself, a bit like a kid, and not have to act like I know what I’m doing or perform or change myself.
In addition to her contribution to Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Apple also co-wrote Dijon’s “Yamahan” from last year’s acclaimed album Baby. “Music was always that dream I had, but never believed I would get the opportunity to create,” Delevingne says of her musical debut. “Writing ‘I Forgot’ felt like a rebirth for me and ‘Out Of My Head’ was like going to therapy. Everything has felt like it’s led up to this point and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”
While the album title remains unannounced, further details are expected soon. The new singles are accompanied by a music video directed by Jessica Lee Gagné. Watch the video below.
