hey, nothing Return With The Catchy, Anxious “Boat Garage”

When the buzzy young Atlanta duo hey, nothing released their promising single “Barn Nursery” last year, the comparisons to the indie-folk sensibilities of Big Thief were immediate and persistent. It is a reputation they have leaned into, and with their latest release, they prove that the “tweemo Big Thief” label remains as apt as ever.

Following the release of their 33° EP, the band has returned with their first new track of 2026, “Boat Garage.” While the song retains the band’s signature indie-rock DNA, it leans significantly harder into the emo influences that have always simmered beneath their sound. Featuring a hearty, anthemic chorus and a chunky, driving riff, “Boat Garage” manages to be both musically infectious and lyrically poignant—perhaps the catchiest song ever written about the specific anxiety of watching your neighbor’s house burn down.

In a press release accompanying the track, the duo opened up about the inspiration behind the song:

Shaded by the tonal umbra of indie rock and roll, a sound that just begs you to dance, two deeply frightened individuals lay. “Boat Garage” is the manifestation of our anxieties as the world burns deeper and deeper every day. We don’t know what the hell we’re doing or how to help and so instead, we spiral, help less, worry more, look at pictures of dogs on the internet. “Boat Garage” pokes fun at ourselves for asking the question “Am I the problem?,” because the answer is both “yes” and “no.”
