Earlier this year, Mr. Bungle played their first live shows in 20 years, and now they’re back with the release of their first recorded music since 1999’s California. It’s a cover of the Exploited’s “USA,” which appeared on the Scottish punk group’s 1982 sophomore album.
“Doesn’t matter what part of the political spectrum you are on, everyone at some point has said ‘F**k the USA,’” the band’s Trey Spruance said in a press release. The closest thing we have to a universal sentiment.”
The band recently finished re-recording their 1986 demo tape The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny, though a release date for it is still TBA. “The music from The Raging Wrath, which we wrote when we were 15 and 17 years old, continued to be relevant to us,” Trevor Dunn said in a Revolver interview a couple months ago. “But the original demo was never fully realized. It was a DIY four-track tape recording fully self-produced by our naive and wandering minds whilst still learning how to play our instruments and understand songwriting at its most basic level … for us, going back to the roots is totally exciting.”
All of the proceeds from their cover of “USA” will go toward the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund through 7/4. Listen to it below.
