A New Chapter for Ted Bradley
Since the close of last year, the project known as Strange Pains—the creative outlet for Empty Country member Ted Bradley—has been steadily building momentum. With a string of singles including “Boomerang,” “Memory Man,” and “Soon And So On,” Bradley has established a distinct sonic identity that balances raw energy with introspective songwriting. Today, that anticipation culminates in the official announcement of his debut double album, The Diamond District, with the first volume slated for a fall release.
To mark the announcement, Bradley has shared the project’s latest single, “Walking With Yves.” The track serves as a high-octane introduction to the forthcoming collection, capturing a sense of breathless urgency and an almost defiant feeling of invincibility. It is a testament to Bradley’s ability to channel complex emotional states into accessible, driving rock music.
The Philosophy Behind the Sound
Discussing the thematic underpinnings of “Walking With Yves” with Under The Radar, Bradley offered insight into the human contradictions that fuel his songwriting. He described the track as an exploration of the delusions we maintain to navigate our daily lives, noting, “Certain delusions let us carry contradictory feelings with absolute conviction. We can be convinced we’ve learned something in the harsh light of day, only to forget it as quickly as we saw it. A jarring, human phenomenon.” This philosophical approach adds a layer of depth to the song’s propulsive rhythm, grounding its adrenaline in a relatable, albeit messy, reality.
Production and Artistic Direction
For The Diamond District, Bradley has enlisted the expertise of his Empty Country bandmate Joseph D’Agostino, formerly of Cymbals Eat Guitars. D’Agostino’s involvement in the production, engineering, and mixing processes ensures a cohesive and polished sound that honors the project’s indie-rock roots while pushing into more expansive territory. The collaboration highlights the tight-knit creative community surrounding the project, promising a debut that feels both intimate and grand in scope.
Looking Ahead to the Release
The tracklist for the upcoming volume suggests a diverse and ambitious collection of songs, ranging from the atmospheric “Waiting In Water” to the enigmatic “(Untitled)” and the closing track “Outside Today.” As the project prepares for its September 18 release via Best Brother Records, the anticipation for this debut double album continues to grow. Fans can pre-order the collection now to secure their copy of what promises to be one of the most compelling indie debuts of the year.
