The Field is alive! With the sound of music! The artist born Axel Willner hasn’t released much music under any of his aliases since his 2018 Field album Infinite Moment. If Wikipedia is to be trusted, Willner’s only project since then came in 2020, when he and Pelle Lundquist dropped a lengthy compilation on us under their Lars Blek guise. So today’s release of new EP Now You Exist is huge news for Field-heads.

Those hoping for something like From Here We Go Sublime will have to look elsewhere, though they’d be wise to check in here because Now You Exist is very much worth your time. Rather than the futuristic club music of old, these five tracks are towering electronic post-rock instrumentals. The closest thing to a geometric dance beat can be heard on “Hey Baby,” but mostly the vibe here is tidal waves of static-laden beauty.
