Frank Turner Joins Elite Ranks with 50 Shows in 50 Days Tour

Punk rock troubadour Frank Turner has accomplished a feat that few artists would dare to attempt. The musician recently completed a tour consisting of 50 shows in 50 days across 50 different cities in the United States—a logistical and physical challenge that stands as a testament to his endurance and dedication to his craft.

Turner joins an exclusive club of performers who have successfully navigated this gauntlet. The only other acts to have completed such a journey are George Thorogood, who accomplished the feat in 1981, and The Melvins, who finished their own 50-day run in 2021.

Reflecting on the experience while in Hawaii, Turner admitted to feeling “shell-shocked” by the intensity of the schedule. “I had the idea of playing 50 states in 50 days prior to the pandemic, and it’s been on ice for the last little while,” he shared. “In the context of post-pandemic touring, it seemed like a cool way to hit the ground running and a re-statement of intent. I’m on my ninth record and my 17th year of touring as a solo artist, and this isn’t a bad thing to have a hook to hang a tour off.”

The tour was not without its complications. Turner revealed that he contracted COVID-19 just before the launch, which forced him to adjust his itinerary significantly. To make up for lost time while traveling down the West Coast, he was required to perform multiple shows in a single day. “Those two-show days were genuinely quite front-loaded, so I recovered from COVID, jumped on a plane, and then did something like 20 shows in 12 days,” he explained. “That was brutal. It would have been brutal at any point of my career, but after having had two years off and having turned 40, that proved quite challenging!”

To commemorate the completion of this historic run, Turner opted for a permanent reminder, getting a tattoo on his leg to mark the achievement. It serves as a lasting symbol of a tour that has firmly cemented his place in music history.
